 Been crocheting a fair bit lately....still knitting amongst it but crochet has been stealing my heart.....I love how quick it is, how easy and fun to make things up as you go......

Always a cosy, cheerful color for heading into winter don't you think?
I love pinks and my test knit of the heart cowl pattern teams pink with lots of love!!!!

And this one is also a swap gift - a swap featuring all things Kawaii.....and pink just has to be in that!!!
This pattern is called innocence and gilt from stitch seekers. I love how it combines knit and crochet!

Cowls!

Warm, easy to wear and they don't spend all their time around your neck falling off like a scarf does - cowls are the best invention!
These two I've recently done are actually test knits due for release soon on ravelry - the first is a Poplar cowl - I called my 'raspberry royal' because of the delicious red yarn I used - it features an easy to memorize lace pattern and comes in lots of different yarn weights and size......

and the second is called Chateau - I called mine 'Standing frozen' as the blue sparkle yarn reminded me of the frozen movie and I actually cast on while watching it too. Again the lace pattern is simple to work yet looks gorgeous!
I actually made this one with a special friend in mind and it is winging it's way to her as we speak as a surprise gift :)

Free knit pattern - 3 way rib kindle cozy

I had a very special 50g ball of yarn and decided a kindle cozy was something I would use all the time and hence be able to enjoy the yarn....I did remember to write my pattern up as I went for once so here it is :)

3 way rib kindle cozy!

3mm, 30cm circular needle or DPN's
Worsted yarn - I used 'Nerd girl yarns' Luscious....worsted merino silk
stitch marker

Cast on 64 and join in the round

K2 P2 rib for 2 inches

Knit 5 rounds

K2, P1 around til last two sts, P2tog
Repeat K2 P1 rib for a total of 2 inches

K 5 rounds

K1 P1 around til last two stitches, P2tog.
Rep K1 P1 rib for 1 inch.

Next we will be finishing with a 3 needle bind off.
transfer half your sts to another needle and then complete the 3 needle bind off.
Turn inside out then weave in ends :)

Notes:
The cozy can easily be made longer by adding extra rounds to each set of ribbing.
You can also leave it right side out if you prefer the knit look with the rib rather than the purl bumps.
The pattern can also be easily adapted to knitting flat if you prefer and sewing up a few seams.

Another option would be to add an eyelet round so you can thread through a cord at the opening: 
K2tog, YO, P2 around. Next round continue as K2 P2.

I-cord snake pattern - knit

I made up these simple little stash busting snakes for my kids for Christmas - nothing too special but I was trying out an i-cord and thought I'd keep note of how I did the head, enjoy!
They literally take less than a few grams of yarn to make.

Start with making an icord the length you want your snakes body to be.......lots of tutorials in how to make an i-cord can be found on youtube.

Next we will begin knitting by rows......

KFB (knit into front and back of stitch) into each stitch across .....this increases your sts to 6. Turn.
KFB, Knit 4, KFB .....increases to 8 sts across. Turn.
Knit across. Turn
Purl across. Turn
Knit across. Turn
Purl across. Turn
Knit across. Turn
Purl across. Turn
K2tog, Knit 4, K2tog........this decreases to 6 sts. Turn
P2tog, Purl 2, P2tog.......this decreases to 4 sts. Turn
Cast off in knit.

Embroider eyes with black cotton thread and tie on and knot a piece of red yarn for the tongue.
Weave in all ends.

Flowers and a free pattern

Today it was sooooooo hot so instead of knitting I sat and made crocheted flowers :)
I made each one up as I went along, previous crochet experience and knowledge helped muchly here........

The white one turned into a beautiful medallion so I wrote down the pattern as I created so I could share it with you..........

CROCHET MEDALLION

Chain 6 and join into a ring with a slip stitch

12 single crochet into the middle of the ring and then slip stitch to first single crochet

2 single crochet into each stitch around and again join with a slip stitch to first single crochet (24sts)

*Chain 11, skip a stitch and single crochet into the next stitch* repeat all around and slip stitching into the bottom of the first chain.

Slip stitch your way up the side of the chain until the top of the 11ch loop, single crochet into the top of the chain loop, *chain 5, single crochet into the top of the next chain loop*, repeat around * and then slip stitch into first single crochet.

*Single crochet into middle of 5 chain loop 6 times*, repeat around * and then join with a slip stitch to start.

Finish off.

Just blogging and a free pattern

Haven't had much time to blog lately, my hands have been busy with custom orders and my mind has been like a piece of paper in a whirlwind coming up with ideas for patterns and crafty things.
I am in the middle of designing a crocheted singlet for my baby boy - it still amazes me how little there is out there to make for little boys...if someone were to release a pattern book solely dedicated to boys I think I would be the first to buy it (crochet, sewing and knits please LOL) anyway I am working along the lines of a 'done in one piece'...I absolutely detest sewing seams when I know I don't have to. Bamboo and cotton yarn for summer, I have yet to decide if I'll do a contrast color. If it works out I'll post the pattern here :)

I also managed to write out my ruffle flower pattern that I use for decorating headbands, tops etc

Ruffle Flower

Start with a magic circle and do 6 SC into it, sl st to first SC.

2 SC in each around (12 SC)  sl st to first stitch.

CH 8 and SC into next st...REP around (12 loops).

SL ST into the first loop and do 12 DC into loop.....sl st into the next loop and REP all around.

Finish off.
